Library Event draws Young Adult Audience

Marlborough Libraries recently had the privilege of welcoming Lucy Blakiston back to her second home (the library), but this time, instead of her nose in her laptop, she came to speak about her new book Make It Make Sense.

As an unofficial Marlborough Library ambassador, Lucy makes no secret about how much she loves our library. She spent many hours working on her part of the book she co-wrote with friend Bel Hawkins upstairs at Te Kahu o Waipuna, so it was apt we helped her launch the book in her hometown.

Lucy and Bel’s book Make It Make Sense is a collage of cultural analysis, anecdotes, personal essays, poems and lists, interplayed like a conversation between friends, so who best to interview her, but our own Young Adult Librarian, Lizzie Nott.

Lizzie was keen to understand a little more about the creativity and personal experiences that went into the book and the value of writing with a friend. Lucy did not disappoint with her funny stories, delivered with her usual Gen Z style and infectious laugh. The hometown audience participation made for some hilarious commentary, including some show-and-tell about weird DM’s and an impromptu lesson on Gen Z language.

Lucy is co-founder of Sh*t You Should Care About, an online media platform making international news palatable for youth audiences (along with a healthy dollop of Harry Styles). This successful platform was formed out of an idea from the back of a lecture hall and now has millions of followers worldwide!

We have several copies of the book in our library, You can reserve a copy here.
