Inter-Library Loan Service
The inter-library loan service (Interloans) is a reciprocal borrowing scheme which allows libraries throughout New Zealand to borrow and lend items to each other on their customers behalf.
You must be a member of Marlborough District Libraries to use this service.
What types of items can I borrow?
Many books held by libraries in New Zealand are available on interloan. You can find most items held by New Zealand libraries using Te Puna search
A librarian at your library (Picton or Blenheim) can search the catalogue for you, advise if we can source the item you require and at what cost.
Material cannot be obtained from libraries outside New Zealand.
What does it cost?
- A standard charge of $5.50 per item applies.
- Charges are payable on collection.
- If the cost is greater than the standard charge, we will contact you prior to requesting the item.
- Requests cannot be cancelled once submitted.
How long can I borrow the item for?
- Loan periods are set by the lending library, usually 3-4 weeks.
- The loan period starts when the lending library sends the item, it is recommended that you collect the item as soon as possible after you are notified.
Can I renew the item?
- If you require further time we will request for a renewal for you. Contact us at interloans@marlborough.govt.nz to request a renewal.
- If approved by the lending library, the renewal is free of charge.
- Renewal of an interloan is not possible via the library website or app.
Where do I collect the interloan?
- We will contact you when your item is ready to be collected.
- Collect the item from the hold shelves.
- Please ask a staff member to issue the item, as due dates vary, depending on the lending library.
When will it arrive?
- Interloan requests are processed within 3 working days of receiving the request.
- The arrival date depends on the availability of the item at the lending library.
